4 DIY Kitchen Cabinet Ideas | ComFree Blog

DIY kitchen cabinet ideasWhen it comes to kitchen design, it?s fair to say that your kitchen cabinets set the tone since they take up a large portion of the walls, and are generally one of the first things you notice on entering a kitchen.

Buying new cabinets for your kitchen can be extremely costly and, unless you are planning to stay put for several years, you may feel it is not worth the additional expenditure.

However, by investing your time and a relatively small amount of cash, you can let your creativity run wild and create some DIY kitchen cabinet ideas which will make your kitchen pop.

Let your photos do the talking

If you?re a budding photographer how about showcasing some of your black and white master pieces on to the fronts of your kitchen cabinet doors? This idea works well on simple white cabinetry and all you need do is choose a few of your favorite black and white photos, choose some sort of theme, and install them in simple white wooden frames.

Stick these in the center of your cabinet doors for a DIY kitchen cabinet with the personal touch and change your hardware to simplistic black knobs. They make a fantastic talking point and you can switch your photos any time you want a new look.

The molded look

Strips of molding can add an interesting visual appeal and you can either go for a traditional look with a vertical panel or go funky by decorating the entire door with geometric shapes using flat slats of wood. If you?re opting for the latter, then paint the front of your cabinets before fixing on your wood strips and then paint these the same color. Stunning!

Decoupage

DIY cabinets don?t have to involve paint or additional panels. How about enlarging one of your favorite recipes and decoupaging it to a few of your cabinets and adding some sleek stainless steel handles. This looks modern and stylish and, again, works best on plain simple cabinets.

Say it with paint

You know how you see paint strips in DIY stores that help you see in an instant which colors look good together and which shades work? Well, with three different paint colors and some molding, you could turn your cabinet doors into paint strips.

If you?re seeking a calm and elegant kitchen, then choose three fairly neutral colors, such as caramel, beige and vanilla. Or, if you?re looking for something with a retro feel, then how about spicy orange, vibrant yellow and deep red?

If your kitchen is well illuminated by sunlight, then you may go for black kitchen cabinets. Use your molding to split the doors into three equal vertical sections, each painted a different color, such as on a paint strip. Accessorize with some vintage look Tolix bar stools or chairs, and you have a great-looking kitchen that will brighten up your days.
