LONDON (Reuters) - British consumer confidence unexpectedly picked up to an 18-month high in November, according to a survey on Friday that offered Chancellor George Osborne some relief before he sets out his plans to revive a stagnant economy next week.
The GfK NOP headline index rose to -22 from -30 in October, the strongest since May 2011 and better than forecasts for an unchanged reading.
Although Britain's economy emerged from recession in the third quarter, policymakers have warned of a slow and drawn-out recovery. Under pressure to do more to find growth, Osborne will update parliament on his budget plans on December 5.
Austerity measures, weak wage growth and high inflation have darkened the outlook and reduced families' willingness to spend. However, the latest survey suggested the mood of consumers may be slowly improving.
"This is an unexpected rise in consumer confidence," said Nick Moon, GfK's managing director of social research. "The improvement is especially dramatic following such a stagnant summer."
The next few survey results will show whether November's figure was a spike or the start of a positive trend, he added.
A separate survey on Thursday by the Confederation of British Industry, a business lobby group, said retail sales rose in November at the fastest pace in five months.
However, the latest official data was more downbeat. The statistics office said on November 15 that October's retail sales were the weakest since April.
The GfK breakdown showed Britons were more upbeat about their personal finances, while their optimism for wider economy over the year ahead was the strongest since May 2011. Their appetite for making big purchases also improved.
Researchers polled 2,001 people from November 2 to November 11 on behalf of the European Commission, the EU's executive body.

An Ohio man faces one month of jail time for teasing and taunting a 1o-year-old girl with cerebral palsy after a video of the incident went viral.
On Nov. 27, Judge John A. Poulos of the Canton Municipal Court sentenced 43-year-old William Bailey to 29 days in jail.
The taunting occurred on Sept. 26, when Tricia Knight and her mother-in-law were waiting for her children's bus to return from school. Knight's three children, including 10-year-old Hope, attend Walker Elementary with Bailey's 9-year-old son, Joseph.
What happened next was caught on an iPod camera by Knight's mother-in-law, Marie Prince.
William Bailey "was dragging his leg and patting his arm across his chest to pick his son Joseph up," said Knight. "I asked him to please stop doing this. 'My daughter can see you.' He then told his son to walk like the R-word."
The next day Knight posted the video on her Facebook page while Prince uploaded the video they called "Bus Stop Ignorance" to YouTube. Within days, the video went viral.
The Knight family has lived next door to the Baileys for the past two years, and the incident at the bus stop, according to Knight, is the culmination of rising tensions and intimidation against her kids.
In the days that followed the taunting at the bus stop, the Knight family filed a complaint with Canton City prosecutors.
Jennifer Fitzsimmons, the chief assistant city prosecutor for this case, says in the three years she's been in this role, she's never seen anything like this.
"I think when we look at cases, there's case law out there regarding people commenting and gesturing against race and religion. But when there's nothing out there regarding disabilities, it took me a little bit longer to come to a decision."
After Fitzsimmons reviewed the Knight family's complaint, a police report based on a phone call from the Knight family, and the video captured by Prince, she decided to press charges.
"It was settled without Hope having to relive what she saw and how it impacted her," said Fitzsimmons. "I think the trial could have been just as traumatic as the event itself."
Bailey, who works as a truck driver, was charged twice. He was originally charged for aggravated menacing, a misdemeanor of the first degree. In this charge, the victim was Knight, an incident she says took place the same day as the bus stop scene.
Bailey, she said, "was swinging a tow chain on his porch, saying he was going to choke me until I stopped twitching. I sent my kids with my mother-in-law to leave with them. My husband called the sheriff."
In Ohio, a menacing charge is a misdemeanor fourth degree, which carries a maximum of 30 days in jail.
The second original charge, for the bus stop incident, was disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. A disorderly conduct is a minor misdemeanor and carries no jail time.
Although Bailey's sentencing technically reflects the charges brought by his actions toward Knight, Hope's mother, Fitzsimmons explains how the plea deal enabled the sentence to cover his actions toward Hope.
"Because the menacing misdemeanor charge was directed toward Hope's mother, and they're all interrelated, the judge took into account all the actions of Mr. Bailey and the entire Holcomb family," said Fitzsimmons.
Bailey "entered a plea of 'no contest' to a menacing charge and to disorderly conduct," said Fitzsimmons. His sentence will go into effect on Jan. 2.
Judge Poulos required Bailey to pay $400 in court costs as well as other fees. He was given a credit for one day which is why his sentence is 29 days and not the maximum 30.
Following the Nov. 27 hearing, Bailey's attorney, John R. Giua, released a statement and apology on Bailey's behalf, according to the The Repository, an online newspaper for Stark County, Ohio.
"I don't think this sentence will change things because it hasn't so far," said Knight.
Knight says living next door to the Baileys affects their everyday lives.
Just last summer, said Knight, 9-year-old Joseph Bailey came over to play with Knight's children and brought over a pocket knife, threatening to "cut [Hope] up," followed by name calling. That harassment continued into the school year.
Since the bus stop incident, Knight has spoken with the bus driver and the school's principal. Knight now drives Hope to school every day while her other two children ride another bus to school.
Hope was born 29 weeks premature after Knight was involved in a head-on auto collision. When she was born, Hope weighed only two pounds, 12 ounces, which caused several medical problems resulting in two brain surgeries. Knight says her daughter fought for her life the first two years.
As for whether this case presents a new precedent in Ohio is another debate.
"I don't know if it sets a precedent so much maybe as it begins a conversation between people," said Fitzsimmons. "I think conversation starts progress, and I think if it can bring something else to light, it would be good."

As children we dream.
We manufacture these massively multicolored stories which are acted-out. And devoid of any reservations. But as adults we suppress our dreams for a more practical way of living. In many cases a safer ? predictable life. And while there is nothing wrong with traveling the road most traveled. Often times, our compromises lead us to an unfulfilled life.
I have traveled the road most traveled. Because it was expected of me. But over the past year, mentors such as Michael Hyatt gave me the tools to start dreaming again. But C.C. Chapman ?told? me that there is nothing shameful in actually pursuing my dreams.
So here I am with my personal photography blog. Where I also pursue my dreams of being a writer. And because Chapman as been such a positive influence in my life, I asked if I could interview him. And he said ?yes!? :-)
Why did you decide to write ?Amazing Things Will Happen?? And how did ?Managing the Gray? influence that choice?
I didn?t have a choice about writing this book. It has been nagging to get out of my head for years and the time was finally right.
I had already written out the outline before starting Content Rules and when Ann asked me to write that with her I put this book on the back burner. It was never a question of not writing it, just a question of when.
Managing the Gray did influence the book because I heard back from listeners more than once, ?why don?t you write a book about this?? so I knew that there was already an audience for it when I found the time.
The biggest motivator for writing the book is that my kids are becoming teenagers and I wanted them to have a handy guide for living a great life. Sure, I talk to them all the time about what they want to be when they grow up and their different options but I thought it would be helpful to have an actual guide they could go to. I?m eager to see what they think about it after reading it. (they both currently are)
You mention the importance of always having a notebook. Why is having a notebook so important?
Because you never know when an idea is going to strike you and having a notebook that you can jot it down in makes sure you don?t lose any. Plus, while technology is great and I use Evernote as my virtual brain, being able to write and sketch on paper still hasn?t been replaced by any technology as far as I?m concerned.
In addition it is great to spend quiet time with a notebook. Sitting in a coffee shop or a park bench with simply a notebook and a pen is a great way to let the ideas flow. I talk about the importance of getting away from technology sometimes and a notebook is a great travel companion.
I see that creating lists is an important tool for you. But what do you tell people who make ?To Do Lists? and never check off a single task?
Stop making lists!! A list is only a valid tool if you actually cross items off it.
I am a big list maker because it forces me to focus on the most important tasks that need to get done. I quite often will grab a post it and write out the 3-5 things that I want to get done on any given day so that I can focus on those. If you make the list too long then you?ll never get it done and that isn?t good either.
Walking the road less traveled is terrifying for many. What is your advice, to those people, on how to start the journey?
Take the first step and then keep on walking.
It really is that simple and I talk about it in much more depth in the book, but once you choose the path that you want to take you are the only person who can actually start walking down it. Yes, there will always be risks, turns and rough patches because that is how life is.
Pursue your dreams. Allow yourself to be a child whose imagination runs uninhibited. Permit yourself to chase the dream of being a photographer or a writer or a world traveler or where ever your dreams take you.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Wednesday he hoped to reach an agreement with Congress before Christmas to avoid the looming "fiscal cliff" and shrink the budget deficit, and ramped up efforts to rally the public to press Republicans for action.
Obama encouraged Americans to use Twitter - with the hashtag #My2K - and other social media to swamp their lawmakers with requests to act quickly to keep their tax rates low.
"Our ultimate goal is an agreement that gets our long-term deficit under control in a way that is fair and balanced," he said at the White House.
"I believe that both parties can agree on a framework that does that in the coming weeks. In fact, my hope is to get this done before Christmas," Obama said.
The president and congressional Republicans are negotiating how to avoid steep automatic tax hikes and deep spending cuts that will kick in soon unless they can reach a deal to avoid them. Obama, fresh from a successful re-election effort in which he campaigned heavily on raising taxes on the wealthy, has launched an aggressive public relations campaign to support his approach.
On Wednesday, he spoke to an audience of "middle class Americans" who he said would have roughly $2,000 less to spend if Congress fails to extend middle class tax rates that will automatically rise unless lawmakers act.
He went a step farther at a cabinet meeting later in the day, saying the tax rise would hurt the world economy.
While congressional Republicans have been willing to agree to increased revenues to achieve a broader deal to cut government red ink, they have generally been opposed to any tax rate increases. However, in recent days, some have indicated a willingness to agree to higher rates.
Obama noted that some of the resistance to his proposal is wavering.
"I'm glad to see - if you've been reading the papers lately - that more and more Republicans in Congress seem to be agreeing with this idea that we should have a balanced approach," he said.
For their part, Republican leaders are seeking to cut spending on social safety net programs, in particular the Medicare program that provides health insurance for the elderly, which they say is the key reason for yawning deficits.
The president said on Wednesday that a deal on taxes could lay the foundation for a broader deal.
"Now is the time for us to work on what we all agree to, which is let's keep middle-class taxes low," he said. "And if we get this part of it right, then a lot of the other issues surrounding deficit reduction in a fair and balanced and responsible way are going to be a whole lot easier."
The president called on his backers to pressure Congress both by traditional means and through social media. The White House has encouraged supporters to tweet how roughly $2,000 less in disposable income would hurt their spending.
"Do what it takes to communicate a sense of urgency. We don't have a lot of time here," Obama said.
The White House has used Twitter campaigns in the past to get the public to pressure Congress to lower student loan interest rates (#dontdoublemyrate) and on extending the payroll tax cut (#40dollars).
As part of his public relations campaign, Obama is due to meet with corporate executives at the White House later on Wednesday and to visit a toy manufacturer near Philadelphia on Friday.

Tomorrow morning, in a courtroom in Charlottesville, Va., a top death-penalty lawyer backed by a well-funded nongovernmental organization and the Ukrainian government will ask a federal judge to reopen the case of Ivan Teleguz, a Ukrainian-born death row inmate. Among the dozens of cases of European nationals on American death row that have been identified by Reprieve, a London-based advocacy group, the Teleguz case represents the best opportunity yet for the group to save a life.
Teleguz has been on death row since his 2006 conviction of murder-for-hire in the stabbing death of the mother of his child, Stephanie Sipe. The Commonwealth of Virginia failed to produce any records of the alleged payments?$2,000 plus $500 in expenses?from Teleguz to Michael Hetrick, the man who all parties acknowledge stabbed Sipe to death. Teleguz was convicted solely on the testimony of Hetrick and two other men?Hetrick?s roommate and accomplice, Edwin Gilkes, and Aleksey Safanov, who claimed to have witnessed the deal. After a vigorous post-conviction investigation by Teleguz?s Reprieve- and Ukraine-backed counsel, these two witnesses have now recanted their testimony. And after a successful last-ditch appeal, in August, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals sent the matter back to the District Court in Charlottesville to hold tomorrow?s hearing. If the recanted testimony, as well as new evidence turned up by Teleguz?s counsel, is deemed enough to change the mind of a ?reasonable juror,? the District Court judge is under orders to reopen the case.
Under the Vienna Convention of 1963, when foreign nationals are arrested abroad, authorities are required to contact the embassy of their home country. Such contact often results in a diplomat attending their trial. An imperious, pin-striped courtroom presence can keep judges and prosecutors operating by the book and constitutes an early warning system for sleeping, drunken, or otherwise incompetent defense attorneys. Occasionally, embassies will even hire expensive, experienced private counsel for the defendant. In Teleguz?s case, and a stunning number of others, this notification never took place. Though born in Ukraine and raised there until age 11, Teleguz, who has never become a naturalized U.S. citizen, did not receive the consular notification to which he was entitled, either after his arrest or during his trial. Ukraine only learned of his case in 2010. (Lack of consular notification is among the myriad issues Teleguz?s attorney is raising before the District Court, but it is considered a relatively minor issue; this breach alone has not historically been enough to get a convict off of death row.)
And yet, Teleguz?s Ukrainian birth may still be enough to spare his life even at this late date. Teleguz?s counsel, Matthew Stiegler, an experienced Philadelphia-based death penalty lawyer who has done work for the ACLU Capital Punishment Project and served as clinical faculty at the University of North Carolina law school, declined to discuss the specifics of Reprieve?s or Ukraine?s support for Teleguz. What is known, however, is that the Ukrainian government has filed an amicus brief in the case and Reprieve has funded a trip for his advocates to Ukraine to meet with officials and learn about the difficult circumstances under which the Teleguz family lived as persecuted evangelical Christians in officially atheist Soviet Ukraine?information that could be used to request clemency from the governor of Virginia should the conviction stand. And support from Ukraine and Reprieve has enabled Teleguz?s appellate lawyers to undertake their thorough review of his case. Beyond the Vienna Convention and testimony-recantation issues raised in their appeal is an additional claim of ?ineffective assistance of counsel.? During the trial, the prosecution?s implication of Teleguz in an earlier murder at a recreation center in Ephrata, Penn. went unquestioned by the defense. A post-conviction investigation by Reprieve-backed attorneys found no record of any such murder having ever taken place.
If Teleguz?s case is reopened it will represent a legal victory years in the making. In 2009, Reprieve received a 500,000 euro grant from the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights, the arm of the EU that promotes those values in non-EU countries. The grant mandated that Reprieve was to use the funds to locate Europeans among the over 3,000 prisoners on American death rows. The funding is part of the EU?s larger initiative to take its successful internal ban of the death penalty global. But even for those eager to see the death penalty abolished in America, Reprieve?s efforts are not without controversy.
The European Union requires that new member states ban the death penalty in order to join it. More than just ending the death penalty in the Eastern European states that are seeking membership in or have recently acceded to the European Union, this requirement prevents backsliding by established members. Even though a majority of Britons now support reinstituting capital punishment, such a position is a political nonstarter in the U.K., in part because the prospect of conflict with the EU saddles the decision with such disastrous diplomatic and economic repercussions.
By finding Europeans on death row, Reprieve hopes to actively take on one of the world?s leading executioners (in 2010, only China, Iran, and Iraq executed more people than the United States) while inoculating itself against charges of interfering in the affairs of a sovereign state and an EU ally. As a Reprieve briefing to the European Parliament in Brussels explained, ?sometimes, external intervention in capital cases can be seen as meddling. However, this is not so where the prisoner is a foreign national or someone with clear foreign connections, as this provides an undeniably appropriate locus.? Having nearly completed its survey, the group has found 66 prisoners who are either Europeans or ?have clear foreign connections? to Europe, constituting about 2 percent of all condemned inmates in the United States.
?I?ve known for years that the number of people on death row who are foreigners is much bigger than most people recognize,? says Reprieve founder and director Clive Stafford Smith, a native of Britain. Smith worked as a death penalty advocate in the United States for 26 years after law school and holds dual citizenship. ?When you?re a foreign national and you?re arrested, the last thing you think you should do is say you?re a foreigner because most foreigners in America ? are paranoid about the INS [now USCIS]. They?re much more worried about deportation than they are about conviction, especially if you happen to be innocent.?
But according to the results of the survey, foreign-born inmates afraid of the immigration authorities are a small subset of Reprieve?s total. Most of the ?Europeans? that Reprieve has turned up?fully two-thirds of them?are not European-born, but are eligible for citizenship in various European nations on account of other ?links.? As Smith notes, in America, not-too-distant connections to the old country are common. Using a four-page survey Reprieve prepares for death penalty attorneys to administer, the group analyzes each prisoner?s foreign ties. (Reprieve refused to share a blank questionnaire but Slate obtained one through a source who works in death penalty defense.) The survey amounts to a methodical analysis of each parent and grandparent?s immigration histories, including their country of birth and all nationalities they have ever held as well as the inmate?s own history of living abroad and/or dating or marrying foreigners.
While the United States uses jus soli citizenship (Latin for ?right of the soil?), which grants citizenship to anyone born in America, regardless of parental race, ethnicity, or immigration status, many European countries use the race-based jus sanguinus (?right of the blood?), which grants citizenship to people with family roots in a nation regardless of whether they?ve ever been there themselves. Many European nations will grant citizenship not just to the children of emigrants but even to their grandchildren. Under these rules, for example, for many decades people of Turkish descent born in Germany were denied German citizenship while German citizenship was granted to the children of German fathers born abroad. (Croatia will grant citizenship to anyone who deems themselves a member of the Croatian people and adopts Croatian customs.) Reprieve?s survey has revealed 44 inmates with ?potential nationality? in 21 different European countries. The ?potential nationality? wrinkle is an exception that has proven larger than the rule.

An issue I feel strongly about is using scores from standardized tests to determine (assess) an individual?s speech and language abilities. I learned about what validity and reliability mean in reference to using standardized testing tools early in my educational course work for this field. What is bothersome to me is that while it is common knowledge that most if not all exams, especially those for children, are not ?normed? on children I would test, many agencies and supervisors demand a score as part of an evaluation report.
Children I would test are those that live in New York City and the New York region (i.e., Long Island, Yonkers, Westchester). Further exasperating this topic are those children which are exposed to more than one language. These children do not follow the ?typical? speech and language developmental norms of any monolingual community. Therefore, why are SLPs using these testing tools to make an assessment? Some may think the SLP is monolingual and may not be aware. Let?s make it clear, there is no SLP that should graduate from any program, bilingual or not, that is not aware of reading a testing manual at the least. We are also taught, even if briefly, that testing tools should be scanned to remove or adjust bias questions/materials and that bilingual children should be tested by bilingual SLPs. Let me make another point clear: while a person is bilingual it does not qualify them to assess a bilingual person. For example, I am proficiently bilingual in English and Spanish. ??
What is especially worrisome is that while this is such a touchy subject, a certified SLP can actually lose their license over this issue/topic (using a score to report findings). I would venture and guess that one or two malefactions would not substantiate a license being revoked, however it baffles me as to how not more of an emphasis is made on using appropriate testing materials and informed clinical opinions to report findings instead of using scores from a test. In New York City there are rarely any children that would meet the reliability, validity, and norming standards for any test that I know of, yet I find that too often they are used to assess the child?s language abilities.
Catherine J. Crowley is not only the director of the Bilingual Institute at Teachers College, Columbia University but she is an advocate for this issue. In reality, I cannot say she is an advocate she is the leader who identifies what issues need to change and how to go about changing them. Last year when I started at the institute she informed us of some upcoming trainings and reforms regarding this precise topic: agencies forcing their employees to use scores to report a disorder/delay. Cate, as she likes to be addressed by her students, is still conducting trainings around the city to various agencies and changing policies as we speak. She has a lot of support, some of which is through her students and staff. Cate posts information on the institution?s Facebook page such as rallies, petitions, current events, etc. This is a person that I would reach out to about this issue and support for continuing to proctor this change.?

Oh, the weather outside is frightful! Winter weather is rapidly approaching and you?ve likely begun layering your clothing and weatherproofing your car. When organizing for winter, don?t forget to think about your pets. They too are deserving of special treatment this time of year. Here are ten tips for keeping your pets cozy, comfortable, and healthy this winter:
1. Just as arthritis can be more problematic for us when the temperature drops, so too does this apply to our animals. If your best buddy appears stiff first thing in the morning or is more tentative when navigating stairs or jumping up and down off the furniture, I encourage you to contact your veterinarian. These days, there are so many beneficial treatment options for soothing arthritis discomfort. For your pet?s sake, make the effort to learn more about them.
2. When the temperature drops, outdoor kitties like to snuggle up against car engines for extra warmth. Be sure to provide plenty of notice before you start up your engine lest a ?kitty squatter? sustain serious injury as a result of moving auto parts. Vocalize and tap the hood a few times. Better yet, lift the hood to alert any slumbering guests of your intentions.
3. Antifreeze is terribly toxic for dogs and cats. Even a few licks of the stuff can cause kidney failure and severe neurological symptoms, usually resulting in death. Unfortunately, most antifreeze products have a sweet flavor making them appealing to dogs. Cats are too discriminating to voluntarily taste the stuff, but should they step in antifreeze, they will ingest enough to be toxic during their grooming process. Please prevent your pets from having any access to antifreeze by checking under your vehicles for leaks and storing antifreeze containers in a safe place.
4. Wintertime is definitely dress-up time for dogs, when the clothing is functional rather than just adorable. Just like us, many dogs are more comfortable outside when wearing an extra layer. Smaller dogs in particular have difficulty maintaining a normal body temperature when exposed to freezing conditions. If the love of your canine life happens to be an arctic breed (Malamute, Husky, Samoyed), no need for canine clothing!
5. Regardless of season, all animals need access to water round-the-clock. If your pet is reliant on an outdoor water bowl, strategize a way to prevent the water from freezing. Water bowl heaters work well. Additionally moving water is more resistant to freezing- consider creating a little ?drinking fountain? for your pets.
6. Sure the weather is cold, but your dogs still need plenty of exercise for their physical as well as their psychological well being. Besides, there?s nothing quite like the feeling of relaxing by the fire with a content and tired dog at your side! If the weather is truly too inclement for both of you to be outdoors, look for an indoor dog park or consider doggie day care, assuming your dog enjoys such venues.
7. I?m all for hiking with dogs off leash, but in winter, be extra cautious around ponds and lakes for fear of thin ice. Not only is falling through the ice life threatening for dogs, it creates a situation that often becomes life threatening for the humans involved in the rescue operation.
8. Salt on sidewalks and roads and even ice that adheres to all of that fuzzy hair between your dogs toes can create irritation and sores. Inspect and rinse your dog?s tootsies as needed.
9. I strongly encourage having dogs and cats live indoors. If your living situation absolutely prevents this, and there are no other viable alternatives, please provide your pet with an enclosed shelter that is warmed by a heating device and contains plenty of clean, dry bedding. Also, remember that your pet needs just as much attention from you in frigid temperatures as during the warmer seasons.
10. ?Tis the time of year when we humans tend to overindulge, eating all kinds of things we shouldn?t. Don?t allow your pets to become a victim of this holiday spirit. In addition to adding unwanted and unhealthy pounds, eating rich and fatty foods predisposes them to gastrointestinal upset and pancreatitis either of which could land your four-legged family member in the hospital for several days (not to mention create some significant rug-cleaning expenses for you).
What steps do you take to ensure your pets will be happy and healthy during the winter?

Visualization meditation may be the single most powerful self-improvement tool you have. Use it to relax, relieve pain, create new thought habits, empower yourself, achieve goals, heal your body, clear up past emotional issues and more.
If you can imagine it, you can live it!
Why is visualization so powerful? Because the mind does not operate using words. Self-talk is very important but the mind instantly translates and processes every word that is thought, heard or read into an image.
?Purple notebook.?
You read a bunch of black squiggles on a white page, but your mind painted a picture. It?s like this with any thought you have.
Unfortunately, most of the images we habitually hold in our heads are not positive, empowering or healing. They are typically not loving, peaceful or happy (if they were, you would be living your ideal healthy, happy and fulfilled life). Unless you are an exceptionally self-aware and self-controlled person, your thoughts will center around:
That?s not to say that positive-thinking people have their heads in the sand and are in denial about reality! You want to be aware of your problems, but when you focus on the problem (the fact that the problem exists) you cannot be focused on the solution.
Visualization meditation helps you become solution-oriented rather than problem-oriented. That means, when you think about the future, you will do so with a focus on how you want it. When you think about the past, you will see it as a chapter in your personal history book, but you won?t remain caught up in it (wishing you could undo, redo, relive or fix anything that happened). You?ll see the past as a series of essential lessons.
And, you will immediately set your mind to work in creating a solution.
Use the Silva Method visualization techniques to harness the creative energy of your imagination. The Mental Screen exercise is a way to paint a mental picture of what you want that is not based on ?what is.?
The best time to do visualization meditation is just before you go to sleep. When you direct your imagination to what you want, you give your mind a very clear command. When you do this just before you go to sleep, you will set the wheels of manifesting in motion! Your mind will have all night to ponder the situation, weigh the options, come up with solutions? and when you do this consistently (to make your mind aware that this is really important and you want this!) you will become hyper-aware of your surroundings. You?ll start noticing that what you need is right there in front of you, and now your mind has brought it to your attention. You?ll notice resources. People. Events. Opportunities. And when you take action on these, you?ll quickly move away from the problem to a solution.
How To Practice Visualization Meditation
Sit comfortably (avoid lying in bed because you might fall asleep before you?ve had a chance to clarify and enhance your mental images), eyes closed.
Focus on your breath and allow your body to relax. Your thoughts will slow down as you enter the alert-yet-relaxed alpha brainwave state.
Think about a problem you?re having, but keep your emotions out of it as much as possible. Be very clinical about it: ?this is the problem.?
Fire up your imagination and visualize the end result you want. Don?t give a moment?s thought to how you?re going to achieve this. Forget all the intermediate stuff. That?s your mind?s job and it will do its job if you give it the right command! Always visualize in the present tense, as though what you want is already yours.
The next step is to create positive emotions about your desired end result. Feel happy, elated, relieved, excited and confident that what you want is coming to you and that you are enjoying it (present tense).
Think of it this way:
You go to a restaurant because you have a problem: you?re hungry. Your mind comes up with mental images of various dishes as they are described on the menu. You order your dish, and you visualize yourself eating and enjoying it! You don?t care how your dish is going to be prepared, you only care THAT it will come to you (hopefully soon, before you fill up on too much bread). You sit and enjoy pleasant conversation with your dining partner, all the while confidently anticipating that your dish will arrive, and holding in your mind the feeling of satisfaction of eating your food.
So take that same attitude with any problem you have. Give the visual command, and then release it. Allow your mind to get to work and take immediate action on the information and inspirations you receive, and let go of worry. It?s being handled!
Another way of using visualization meditation is to release negativity. This can be particularly useful when you?re holding onto a grudge. Many of us hold grudges ? and these are destructive energies, a total waste of mental space, and a huge negative energetic burden. Use a technique called the ?pink bubble? (or another color if you prefer). Place an unwanted thought into the bubble, release it and watch it float away from you.
Acknowledge the thought and the accompanying feeling, and use your imagination to place the thought/feeling into a bubble where it can?t get to you and you can?t get to it. You don?t own it anymore. You don?t have to live with the burden anymore. You can still remember the event, but without the emotional attachment to it.
The pink bubble technique takes practice, but you?ll find that it?s a great way to help release the past.
And anytime you find yourself worrying, use visualization meditation to see the result you want and give it increasing levels of mental energy until it becomes a ?no options? command to your mind.

CAIRO (Reuters) - Youths clashed with police in Cairo on Saturday as protests at new powers assumed by President Mohamed Mursi stretched into a second day, confronting Egypt with a crisis that has exposed the split between newly empowered Islamists and their opponents.
A handful of hardcore activists hurling rocks battled riot police in the streets near Tahrir Square, where several thousand protesters massed on Friday to demonstrate against a decree that has rallied opposition ranks against Mursi.
Following a day of violence in Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said and Suez, the smell of teargas hung over the square, the heart of the uprising that swept Hosni Mubarak from power in February 2011.
More than 300 people were injured on Friday. Offices of the Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled Mursi to power, were attacked in at least three cities.
Egypt's highest judicial authority said the decree marked an "unprecedented attack" on the independence of the judiciary, the state news agency reported.
Leftist, liberal and socialist parties have called for an open-ended sit-in with the aim of "toppling" the decree which has also drawn statements of concern from the United States and the European Union. A few dozen activists manning makeshift barricades kept traffic out of the square on Saturday.
Calling the decree "fascist and despotic", Mursi's critics called for a big protest on Tuesday against a move they say has revealed the autocratic impulses of a man jailed by Mubarak, who outlawed Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood.
"We are facing a historic moment in which we either complete our revolution or we abandon it to become prey for a group that has put its narrow party interests above the national interest," the liberal Dustour Party said in a statement.
Issued late on Thursday, the decree marks an effort by the Mursi administration to consolidate its influence after it successfully sidelined Mubarak-era generals in August.
The decree reflects the Muslim Brotherhood's suspicion towards sections of a judiciary unreformed from Mubarak's days: it guards from judicial review decisions taken by Mursi until a new parliament is elected in a vote expected early next year.
It also shields the assembly writing Egypt's new constitution from a raft of legal challenges that have threatened the Islamist-dominated assembly with dissolution.
The Mursi administration has defended the decree on the grounds that it aims to speed up a protracted transition from Mubarak's rule to a new system of democratic government.
"It aims to sideline Mursi's enemies in the judiciary and ultimately to impose and head off any legal challenges to the constitution," said Elijah Zarwan, a fellow with The European Council on Foreign Relations.
"We are in a situation now where both sides are escalating and its getting harder and harder to see how either side can gracefully climb down," Zarwan said.
"INTIFADA"
A central element of Egypt's transition, the drafting of the constitution has been plagued by divisions between Islamists and their more secular-minded opponents, nearly all of whom have withdrawn from the body writing the document.
Mursi's new powers allowed him to replace the prosecutor general - a Mubarak holdover who the new president had tried to replace in October only to kick up a storm of protest from the judiciary, which said he had exceeded his authorities.
At an emergency meeting called to discuss the decree, the Supreme Judicial Council, Egypt's highest judicial authority, urged "the president of the republic to distance this decree from everything that violates the judicial authority".
Al-Masry Al-Youm, one of Egypt's most widely read dailies, hailed Friday's protest as "The November 23 Intifada", invoking the Arabic word for uprising. "The people support the president's decisions," declared Freedom and Justice, the newspaper run by the Brotherhood's political party.
The ultraorthodox Salafi Islamist groups that have been pushing for tighter application of Islamic law in the new constitution have rallied behind the decree.
The Nour Party, one such group, stated its support for the Mursi decree. Al-Gama'a al-Islamiya, which carried arms against the state in the 1990s, said it would save the revolution from what it described as remnants of the Mubarak regime.
Facing the biggest storm of criticism since he won the presidential election in June, Mursi addressed his supporters outside the presidential palace on Friday. He said opposition did not worry him, but it had to be "real and strong".
Candidates defeated by Mursi in the presidential vote joined the protests against his decision on Friday. Former Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa was photographed linking arms with leftist Hamdeen Sabahi, liberal Mohamed ElBaradei and others.
Mursi is now confronted with a domestic crisis just as his administration won international praise for mediating an end to the eight-day war between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
"The decisions and declarations announced on November 22 raise concerns for many Egyptians and for the international community," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement.
The European Union urged Mursi to respect the democratic process, while the United Nations expressed fears about human rights.
