Smartphone Apps coming to your console soon? | Lazygamer .:: The ...

Rumor has it that the Wii U will soon be boasting a range of new games, courtesy of smartphone apps. ?

Granted, the Wii U is struggling to fill out its game library, and it doesn?t look like the biggest games of the year?will be making an appearance on the new Nintendo console.

According to this article?in the Japan Times, Nintendo may soon be padding out its library, by offering conversion software to developers so that their mobile games can be released on the Wii U. ?

?The game console and software maker has offered professional-use conversion software to application developers so they can produce smartphone games that can be played on Wii U,?Kyodo?reports.

Not sure that this will turn things around for Nintendo ? people are interested in games that make use of the specific controls the Wii U has to offer, as well as depth and storytelling we expect from console games. ?Don?t try to pad out your library with mobile games, Nintendo. ?I really don?t need another Kung Fu Rabbit?experience!

What do you think? Is this a good thing for Nintendo? Will flooding the eShop with a deluge of smartphone games and apps help the hybrid tablet/console gain some momentum, or is it just a sign of desperation? The Wii U desperately needs games ? but I?m not sure those games should be of the ?Angry Birds? ilk.?
